Cellular Jail
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a historic prison located in Port Blair on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. It stands as a grim reminder of the colonial oppression and the harsh treatment meted out to Indian freedom fighters during British rule. The Cellular Jail housed many prominent freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar, Batukeshwar Dutt, and Barindra Kumar Ghosh, among others. It became a symbol of British cruelty due to the inhumane conditions and torturous punishments faced by the prisoners. A Light and Sound Show is held in the evenings, which narrates the history of the prison and the heroic stories of the inmates. This show brings to life the tragic and inspiring events that took place within the walls of the jail.
